Proposed Hotel Occupancy Tax Increases

At times, states and local governments seek to increase hotel and motel occupancy taxes. AAHOA remains concerned with increases in occupancy taxes because these increase hurt hotel compettion and put local hotels at a competitive disadvantage. Hoteliers are forced to pay taxes, but often times, there is little or no accountability as to how occupancy tax funds are spent. With an undue burden placed on guests and hoteliers, these increased occupancy taxes hurt hoteliers' ability to expand, invest in communities, and maintain and hire employees.
