AAHOA Legislative Events

On May 6, 1998 the Asian American Hotel Owners Association submitted a ‘Statement of Organization’ to the FEC, thereby creating AAHOAPAC. During the 2004 cycle with receipts totaling $7,004, AAHOA PAC contributed for the first time to two candidates: $4000 to then-Member of Congress Bobby Jindal (R-LA) and $1000 to Senator Harry Reid (D-NV). Since that time, AAHOA PAC has grown into one of the top-five hotel industry PACs, with receipts totaling $334,140 and donations to over 50 House of Representative Candidates, nearly 20 United States Senate Candidates and a handful of state and local candidates.

Contributions and Decision Making

AAHOA Government Affairs staff has implemented a point system whereby a candidate must receive a certain number of ‘points’ before being considered by the AAHOA Government Affairs Committee for AAHOAPAC donations. These points concern candidate issue stances, committee positions and more. The AAHOA Government Affairs Committee and AAHOA Board of Directors regularly entertain AAHOAPAC contributions. AAHOA members are encouraged to make the Government Affairs staff aware of any local or federal candidates they feel should be considered for AAHOAPAC contributions.

Member Participation

AAHOAPAC is one of the tools through which AAHOA advocates for our members behalf on Capitol Hill and in state capitals across the country. AAHOAPAC would cease to exist without continual donations and support from our members. All AAHOA members are encouraged to became members of AAHOAPAC and attend AAHOAPAC events in their regions, as well as in Washington D.C.
